“Let’s Vote Like Christians!” Romans 13:1-4
Sure there are several here today that will head right home and look this website right up!
to better understand the Biblical purpose behind government
For a long time most, including many Christians, have had the idea that religion and politics do not mix. In fact, it is assumed that one’s religion should remain separate from the rest of their life. Is that true? Is this the will of God in our lives?
I Government is God’s Plan (vv 1-2) A. A Plan with Godly Authority (v 1) B. A Plan with Godly Origin (v 1 C. A Plan with Godly Obligations (v 2)
Romans 13:2 “Therefore, he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.”
Nero is in the top “Five Worst Roman Emperors”… executed his mother and wife… his reign was full of corruption…
II Government with a Positive Purpose (vv 3-4a)
1 Timothy 2:1-2 “First of all, the, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”

This chart illustrates the percentage of those in the US who receive on a monthly basis some form of government assistance. Such is fast becoming unsustainable…
III Government with a Negative Purpose (vv 1-2)
1 Peter 2:13-14 “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.”
III Government with a Negative Purpose (vv 1-2) A. The Matter of Crime
Not exactly the best example of what is meant by “tough on crime”…
III Government with a Negative Purpose (vv 1-2) A. The Matter of Crime B. The Matter of Courts and Punishment
By giving punishment that fits the crime, our courts are to strike fear into the hearts of criminals…
Summary and Conclusion: What then does God intend for government to do? Two things: 1) protect the innocent… 2) punish the guilty… nothing more and nothing less. How then does a Christian vote? The candidate(s) who wants government to do what GOD wants it to do is the one(s) who should get our vote!
