Simplifying Christmas There is a fantastic idea called A Want, A Need, and A Read that helps keep the true meaning of Christmas. Instead of going overboard with gift giving for our children, they only receive three gifts: A want (something they hope to get), a need (something they need, like clothes), and a read (a book). You can also relate it to the idea that Jesus only received three gifts upon his birth. Another idea, endorsed by pediatricians, is to give children low tech presents that promote language and learning. A list of recommended gifts can be found in the article 10 Non-Tech Holiday Gift Ideas to Promote Kids’ Language & Learning from the website www.healthychildren.org https://www.healthychildren.org/Engli sh/family-life/Media/Pages/Non- Tech-Holiday-Gift-Ideas-to-Promote- Kids-Language-Learning.asp    Christmas Blessings It is my sincere hope that everyone gets to enjoy this special time of the year with family and friends. Thank you for choosing to share the precious gift of your children with us here at St. Aloysius School. God Bless! Guidance Lessons PreK students will continue to learn about Bucket Filling. In Kindergarten and First Grade the theme for December is “it's better to give than receive.”  In first grade we will read and discuss The Biggest and Brightest Light: The Magic of Helping Others by Marliyn Perlyn. In this true story, six year old Amanda, learns that the greatest feeling in the world comes from helping others.  Students will write about and illustrate ways they can help others. In Kindergarten, The Peace Book by Todd Parr will be used to illustrated the concept of peace. Students will draw and write about how they can give the gift of peace this Christmas.
