One Model of the Autistic Spectrum The pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), refers to a group of five disorders characterized by delays in the development of multiple basic functions including socialization and communication. The typical age of onset is before 3 years of age. The symptoms of PDD may include difficulty in social interaction, difficulty in relating to people and events, difficulty in adjusting to the new environment, repetitive body movements or compulsive behavior. Out of the other PDD Autism is the best studied disorder.
