Was a war waged by coalition forces from 34 nations led by the United States against Iraq in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait. Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait began in August of 1990 and was met with international condemnation, and brought immediate economic sanctions against Iraq by the U.N. U.S. President George H. W. Bush deployed U.S. forces into Saudi Arabia, and urged other countries to send their own forces to the scene. The war was marked by the beginning of live news on the front lines of the fighting. It was principally a territorial conflict, initially between the Serb forces and other ethnic groups in the are, specifically (Muslim Bosniaks, Orthodox Serbs, and Catholic Croats) 1999-NATO forces launched cruise missiles and bombs at targets in Yugoslavia, “plunging America into a military conflict that President Clinton said was necessary to stop ethnic cleansing/killing and bring stability to Eastern Europe”. Were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City and Washington, D.C. Effects: As a result of the attacks, many governments across the world passed legislation to combat terrorism and strengthened airport security. In 2001 dollars, U.S. stocks lost about $1.4 trillion in value in a week. After the attacks their was higher church attendance, and increased expressions of patriotism such as the flying of flags.[ 9/11

The War on Terror: Coined by George Bush after 9/11, it resulted in an international military campaign to eliminate al-Qaeda and other militant organizations no matter what country they operated in. The Patriot Act: From broad concern felt among Americans from the 9/11 attacks, Congress rushed to pass legislation to strengthen security in the US. Opponents of the law have criticized its authorization to indefinitely detain immigrants suspected of terrorism; the permission given to officers to search a home or business without the owner’s consent or knowledge; the FBI/NSA’s ability to search telephone, e-mail, and financial records without a court order.
