Bigger Picture

Electric Vehicles Not a silver bullet

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Powering the Future Whats in a name? Hybrid Electric Vehicle Battery Electric Vehicle

Powering the Future Environmental Benefits

9 Top Five Reasons Why Electric Vehicles are Right for B.C. 1.An EV emits 80% less GHGs, relative to conventional car in BC About 93% of electricity generated in BC comes from renewable sources 2.Drivers of electric vehicles will pay much less in carbon tax 3.95% of all urban car trips are less than 30km 4.British Columbians are ready to adopt green technologies Higher uptake of hybrids than national 5.Local governments are already showing leadership

Powering the Future Getting charged up

Powering the Future How much will it cost?

Powering the Future Seamless transition

Powering the Future Outreach Top Actions to Encourage EVs: Municipal Operations E.g. fleet purchases, charging at civic buildings In the Community E.g. parking by-laws, new construction zoning, targets Education E.g. outreach plan Pembina is continuing to fundraise to work with local government EV leaders.

Powering the Future In British Columbia MetroVancouver Pembina Institute Community Energy Association Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association Electric Mobility Canada Provincial Government BC Hydro UBC BCIT Many local governments (Surrey, Vancouver, etc.) Others… Many players are involved in advancing electric vehicles in BC:

Project Get Ready Vancouver Brian Beck, City of Vancouver Clay Howey, BCIT Pembina Institute Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association Electric Mobility Canada Rapid Electric Vehicles Big Green Island Non-profit initiative led by the Rocky Mountain Institute to help North American cities prepare for the smooth introduction of electric vehicles.
