“In Your Face Concerning Grace!” Galatians 2:11-14

Story of a man who never married and lived with his mother Story of a man who never married and lived with his mother. The love of his life however was his cat named Snowball. The man went on a trip…

Peter Cartwright Andrew Jackson Peter Cartwright, a circuit riding preacher of the 18th century wasn’t afraid to speak the truth… Andrew Jackson, seventh President of the United States…

Another example of one who spoke the truth without hesitancy is the apostle Paul. Our text makes clear though unwilling to start fights, Paul was willing to get in your face concerning grace…

Purpose: to realize the need to get in peoples’ faces concerning the grace of God

I Why Be So Concerned About This Matter A. Paul Knew Peter’s Actions Contradicted His Own Conscience

The term “hypocrite” literally means: to answer from under… It was a word to describe a Greek actor who would put on a frowning or a smiling face…

I Why Be So Concerned About This Matter A. Paul Knew Peter’s Actions Contradicted His Own Conscience B. Peter’s Actions Were Contradicting the Gospel of Grace

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi Gandhi thought the teachings of Jesus were exactly what his troubled nation needed. One Sunday he went to a “Christian Church.” He was met at the front door… Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Acts 15:11 “But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are.”

Peter had his “ah ha moment.” The question is have we?...

II Do We Really Understand This Matter A. The Gospel of Grace Must Be Lived (v 14)

“…they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel…” Galatians 2:14 “…they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel…”

II Do We Really Understand This Matter A. The Gospel of Grace Must Be Lived (v 14) B. The Gospel is Horizontal and Vertical (v 11)

“…because he (Peter) stood condemned.” Galatians 2:11 “…because he (Peter) stood condemned.”

This is why we celebrate about the Lord’s Table each Sunday This is why we celebrate about the Lord’s Table each Sunday. Here is where we share in a meal to remind us of our common, continuous need for Christ!

Resentment rippled through the congregation until a stately, white man walked down and bowed in prayer right next to this black man…

II Do We Really Understand This Matter A. The Gospel of Grace Must Be Lived (v 14) B. The Gospel is Horizontal and Vertical (v 11) C. The Gospel is Bigger than Peace (v 11)

Galatians 2:5 “But we did not yield in subjection to them for even a moment so that the truth of the Gospel might remain with you.”

Abraham Lincoln did not love or want war, but he knew that peace for slavery was utter hypocrisy. So a nation went to war where Americans fought Americans…

Conclusion and Summary No one likes war, but brethren we have been called to fight in the Lord’s Army. The only way the church is going to stay free is if she stays brave and faithful. So, brethren and friend let me get in your face, so to speak and reassure us all that we are saved by grace alone!
