Eastern Orthodox Christianity was spread through cultural diffusion throughout the region. The Russian language is also widely spoken in countries bordering Russia. The climate patterns greatly influenced where people settled in Russia. Most Coal Deposits are located away from major population centers. Most coal and oil deposits are in extremely cold regions. Siberia, in Northern Russia, is largely tundra, permafrost land. The climate patterns greatly influence where people settled/live in Russia. The Aral Sea is quickly drying up as a result of human modifications. In the 1900’s Russia transitioned form a Monarchy to Communistic to a Democratic Republic (Federation) today. Russian people are allowed to vote in their current government. Under communistic rule, the USSR government was unlimited/one party rule. In Russia, the capital and major urban centers are located in the western region. Soviet Union was forced to modernize their economy in the 1980’s and 90’s because of shortages of imported goods and services. Many republics around Russia are benefiting from trade now they are no longer under Russia’s control. The USSR used a command economic system. They were considered communist.
