State of the Task Group The Task Group will soon, in March, have to make an irrevocable decision that will have significant consequences for the success or failure of the entire project This decision is not whether to choose WWiSE, or TGnSync, or MitMot The irrevocable step is the enabling of the first draft of TGn Sean Coffey, Texas Instruments, et al.
State of the Task Group, contd. Any items in the first draft that are unspecified, or undecided, can only be corrected by a 75% majority of the entire Task Group, under formal Robert’s Rules of Order proceedings In 2001, there were minor mechanisms in the .11e draft that were generally agreed to be broken, but the proceedings deadlocked for 6 months because of the 75% hurdle .11e is still in progress, now up to draft 12 Sean Coffey, Texas Instruments, et al.
Suitability as basis for first draft The current TGnSync specification is not in adequate state to form a first draft Massive technical inconsistencies Some on the order of 10 dB or more, even within TGnSync simulations Very sophisticated techniques with severely underspecified mechanisms Descriptions to support closed loop either inadequately described or not described at all Disjointed features rather than consistent design Further major changes pending due to mergers Sean Coffey, Texas Instruments, et al.

WWiSE as draft 1.0 of .11n The WWiSE specification, 11-04-0886r6, is ready for immediate use as the basis for draft 1.0 and submission to WG letter ballot The mechanisms are well suited for all extensions, including beamforming and closed loop feedback, multiple backward compatibility mechanisms, and also give significant advantages in range, coverage, and robustness The core of WWiSE is an efficient embodiment of items that are mostly in general agreement Sean Coffey, Texas Instruments, et al.
