Students or teams of students will complete a wind powered car. Students can use recycled materials or commercially sold items (BE CREATIVE). Or, use a used/clean lunchroom milk carton. The car cannot exceed 24 x 24 x 24. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved. 2

Place a somewhat powerful electric fan on the ground. Measure how far your car was pushed by the wind. Compete with other students to see whose wind car can travel the farthest. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved. 3

Weight of Materials Wheel material (coefficient of friction?) Bearing type and type of lubrication Wheel size, axle size, and wheel location Sail Size Center of Gravity (if off-centered, could cause car to drift undesirably) Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved. 4

If students develop an efficient wind powered car, consider entering the vehicle into a technology or problem solving contest. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved. 5

If the wind powered car is too easy for you, try making a solar car or a car that runs on both solar power and wind. Get creative with the cars power source. Evaluate which one is most efficient. Skldintl.com Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved. 8
