Composition – 30% One composition to a set brief, one of… Vocal Music Instrumental Music 1700–1820 Music for Stage and Screen Fusions One composition in a style of your choice you have flexibility over what instruments your write for (or would you write for voices?) Together both pieces should last more than three minutes We have composed in class using chord sequences, some of you have worked with Aga. We will do some analysis so the bits you love of music you listen to, you can figure out how done and use the same techniques in your own music. We will be looking at how chords move to create harmonies that work and look at how to create different moods and effects in music. You don’t have to perform what you have composed yourself. We will get in professionals to perform compositions, helping you with with the planning stages.

Listening – 40% You will show off: Your ability to describe what you hear Your knowledge of music theory & aural skills We will study Music you love! Vocal Music (music by Purcell, Queen) Instrumental Music 1700–1820 (music by Beethoven and Bach) Music for Stage and Screen (Star Wars, Wicked) Fusions (inc. Irish/African/Jazz fusions) Show off what you know about the piece, get to know the music inside out. We will teach you how to show off what you know and write the answers examiners want to hear.
