Presentation transcript:

Daily Goals Content: Understand the different way that the USA has responded to the threat of terrorism. Literacy: Create a brief presentation about a specific US policy response to terrorism, using assigned reading and outside article. Social: Evaluate various policy options that US has when responding to terror through class discussion.

Open Discussion Let’s open these policy responses to fair and honest discussion. I would like to you contribute your opinion about each of these policy responses to the class. Remember to be critical (but also respectful) in your evaluation. I want you to formulate an opinion on these matters. If you already have one, I want you to share it and evaluate it based on our discussion. I’ll put some discussion-starters up, but feel free to steer the discussion as a class.

Responding to Terrorism: Questions for Discussion How else do you think the US could have responded? Are there times when responding to terrorism in this way “crosses the line?” Are there times when it doesn’t go far enough? Are there times when this is not an appropriate response to terrorism? Do you think that this is an effective way to respond to terrorism? Did it achieve its goals? Why do you think the US chose to this response over other options “on the table?” How do you think the rest of the world responded to these actions? Why do you think they responded that way? How could this have contributed to Anti-Americanism around the world?
