George Jennifer Mary Tom Four young friends; Mary, George, Jennifer and Tom are preparing for a camp in the mountains by a lake. They are talking about what they should take with them.

Let’s see their conversation together.

Mary: Oh! I am so excited. By this time tomorrow, we will be on the camp out in the mountains. Jennifer: Me, too. What will we take with us? George: First of all, we should take a tent so that we can stay in it at night. Tom: But, we haven’t got one. Mary: Well, we have two tents at home. They are pretty good and easy to set. George: Ok.

Mary: Should we take our sleeping bags and raincoats in case it gets cold and it rains? Jennifer: Oh! You are right. We should take sleeping bag so that we can sleep in it without cold. Also, we should take our raincoats so that we won’t be wet.

Tom: Do you want to take a fishing rod so that we can catch fish to eat. George: That is a good idea. Then, we should also take a penknife in case we need something to cut. Tom: Why not?

Jennifer: I suggest taking mobile phone. Mary: Why a mobile phone? Jennifer: We should take a mobile phone in case of emergency.

George: I think, we should take a torch so that we can see well when it gets dark. Jennifer and Mary: Ok. Good. Tom: Then, Let’s start preparing these things for our camping.

Let’s remember their precautions for their camping.

We should take our sleeping bags in case it gets cold. We should take our sleeping bags so that we can sleep in it without cold.

We should take our raincoats in case it rains. We should take our raincoats so that we won’t be wet.

in case / so that 1- We should take our sleeping bags in case it gets cold. It may/might get cold. There is a probability that something happens. So, we should take our precautions considering this probability. 2- We should take our sleeping bags so that we can sleep in it. We should take our sleeping bags in order to sleep in it. It shows our reason why we take our sleeping bag.

in case / in case of We should take a mobile phone in case of emergency. We should take a mobile phone in case there is an emergency. There isn’t any differences in meaning between these two sentences. However, they are different in form; after ‘in case of’, we use noun or noun phrases. after ‘in case’, we use a full sentence.
