1. Who Can Participate? Democracy or Dictatorship? Abraham Lincoln’s definition of democracy from the Gettysburg Address in 1863 “government of the people, by the people, for the people”. Direct democracy- Everyone participates Indirect democracy- Representative government where a small group of people are chosen to carry out the will of the people The people are sovereign; we rule!

1. Who Can Participate? Democracy or Dictatorship? Autocracy & Oligarchy are the two types of dictatorships both are authoratarian Autocracy-a single person holds all of the power (Hitler, Mussolini, & Stalin & more currently Qaddafi of Libya 2011-Arab Spring) often militaristic Oligarchy-a small self-appointed elite have all of the power http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-echochambers-27074746
