Senior Capstone Project April 15, 2015
Overview The project evolved from extensive curriculum work led by the Diocese of Kalamazoo. The work was in response to new directives from the USCCB. Principals, teachers, chaplains, priests, deacons and diocesan administrators all took part in this work.
Project Details Graduation requirement starting with the Class of 2016. The project is genuinely cross curricular. Students will demonstrate proficiency in: Academic Skills (Reading, Writing & Research) Creating presentation props (PowerPoint, Prezi) Presentation Skills
Project Details Students should have chosen a topic from an approved list on April 1st. In August 2015, students will be given instructions for completing their research papers and presentations. During 1st semester 2015-2016 students will complete presentations and papers for review by the senior theology instructor. Presentations will be recorded on each students tablet In January 2016 students will be assigned mentors to review feedback from Mr. Heidelberg and the student's recorded presentation.
Hackett Catholic Prep Capstone Timeline Diocesan winner! Measure of Success: The successful student will have completed an 8-10 page paper using the article format of St. Thomas Aquinas, and successfully made an 8-12” presentation using 4-8 PowerPoint slides or a Prezi, which are logically sound, free of heresy, and grammatically/structurally appropriate. The successful program will have provided the student with clear assignments in all three areas; have provided the students’ work with peer, instructor and mentor review and criticism; and provided the student with an amount of class time and direct instruction that corresponds to the value the school puts on this project. March: All materials officially submitted to school, Paper assessments & Presentations scheduled. January: Paper feedback returned, Mentors introduced. February: Mentors review paper comments and recorded presentations with students. November: Rough draft complete, Presentation rehearsals. December: Paper submitted, Presentation recorded September: Research Complete, Sources approved. October: Paper Outline Created. Tech slides complete. August: Writing, Presentation, Tech assignments passed out.
Project Details The final project is due no later than March 1, 2016. Project presentations will be given to local panel in March of 2016. Panel will include members of theology, ELA, and technology department. Assignments will be graded on a pass/fail (60% to pass) basis. Students will be notified by April 1st if their score meets graduation requirements.
Project Details Top 5 finalists will be forwarded to diocese for scholarship round. A total of 10 students from Hackett CP, Lake Michigan Catholic and St. Phil’s will compete for 10 scholarships.
