This far … We have concluded our silent deviations series and a very satisfied with both form and content Form: using series makes it easier to go deeper into topics Content: we know better how silent deviations becomes, how they are maintained and how they can be removed We will publish a short report on these findings

Injuries on hands and fingers 35% of our work related injuries are hands and fingers In 2008 we had 64 hands and fingers incidents in Norway Every fourth injury is due to hand tools usage This is our largest injury category; most injuries are less serious – but with a large potential All these injuries can be avoided

Grand Consequences Short or long term disability Loss of work and / or position Loss of hobbies and interests Social consequences and mental distress Pain and isolation All these consequences can be avoided

Typical situations … Using hand tools Using knifes Carrying equipment and material Chemical exposure Storing and lifting

Safety gloves Gloves are an important barrier that must be included in all risk assessments. A risk assessment must decide which gloves are necessary in the task at hand

But a glove won’t be enough Our most important barrier is us: Planning Procedures Awareness Isolations and barriers

Hand tools: Please answer with examples Work Shop Hand tools: Please answer with examples Which quality checks routines do we have for hand tools? Do we always use the right tools for the job?
