General Policies…

Calling the Office – After regular business hours… Calling the office after hours is for emergencies only. If it is an emergency call the regular office number, do not call the On-Call cell numbers. Examples of Emergencies: Calling in sick, consumer not answering, emergency with consumer, or running late. These are examples of emergencies. Examples of Non-Emergencies: Asking about your schedule, getting directions, etc. are examples of things that are not emergencies and should be taken care of during regular business hours.

Care Plans… Follow CARE PLANS provided to you by Family Care. If you don’t have a care plan for a consumer, call the office and we will provide one to you. Care plans are made for a reason, please follow them. If there is something that needs to be on the Care Plan, or you have a question about a Care Plan, please call the office. Remember Family Care wants your input, you are Family Care’s eyes and ears in the field and we need to work together.

Family Care’s General Policies… Please remember to satisfy your consumers to the best of your ability, go the extra mile. They are the ones that decide whether to use our services or your services. The consumer may request a different aide at any time. Please refrain from taking in large bags, purses, backpacks, etc. into a consumer’s home. This may make your consumer uneasy about what is being brought in or out of their residence. Do not give out personal phone numbers to consumers; this may result in a written warning. If a consumer asks for your personal number, instruct them you are not allowed to give it out, but you can give them the office phone number.

Family Care General Policies… (cont.) Please ensure to call the 1-877-787-2261 if you are at a consumer’s residence and it is long distance to ensure the consumer is not getting charged long distance charges. (Ex. Berwick is long distance). Family Care employees are prohibited from transporting consumers in their vehicles or the use the consumer’s vehicle for transportation of any kind without written authorization from Family Care. Employees are not allowed to cut toe nails. Feet may be soaked / nails filed but never cut. Consumers should have this service supplied by a podiatrist.

Family Care General Policies… (cont.) Incentives are issued to employee’s that refer new consumers to Family Care. Please check with the office to find out about incentives. They are subject to change on a monthly basis. Family Care will conduct an initial performance review after the first 90 days and annually thereafter. 90 day review is an inner office review, there is no raise for this evaluation.

Family Care General Policies… (cont.) Employees are not allowed to contact the consumer’s case manager or caseworker. All information must be handled thru the office to ensure proper care and coverage is maintained. All employees affiliated with Family Care are prohibited from assuming power of attorney or guardianship over a consumer utilizing our services. If you are a Spouse, Power of Attorney, Legal Guardian, Parent or Step Parent of a consumer on a waiver program, you are not permitted to care for them.

Family Care General Policies… (cont.) Employees are required to provide Family Care with a 2 week notice of any intent to quit or said employee will not be able to work for Family Care in the future. In the event that an employee hands in their 2 week notice Family Care will try to find coverage as soon as possible. This means that Family Care requires a 2 week notice but employees may not have to work the entire 2 weeks, it will be based off of staff availability and coverage. Employees that are terminated or quit must hand in all materials that have been issued by Family Care. Materials consist of care plans, badges, communication books, and material with consumer or Family Care information on it.

Family Care General Policies… (cont.) The provisions of Family Care policies may at the discretion of the Agency be changed, modified, or revoked from time to time. Our policies at times do not cover every situation that will come up, but Family Care will strive to do our best.
