Our Political Beginnings Chapter 2

Landmark English Documents Magna Carta(1215)- signed by King John, this protected certain liberties from absolute rule Petition of Right(1628)- signed by Charles 1, ensured Habeus Corpus(can’t be held without reason or trial)

English Bill of Rights(1688) Part of the Glorious Revolution in England. Signed by William and Mary, granted freedoms very similar to our Bill of Rights

Types of Colonies in America Royal- controlled by the crown Proprietary- someone that had been granted the land by a king Charter- self-governing and given this right by the king

3 Concepts from England Ordered Government- rules are needed Limited Government- break from Absolutism Representative Government- should serve the will of the people
