HEALTH AND WELFARE INSPECTIONS

TASK, CONDITIONS, and STANDARDS TASK: Conduct a health and welfare inspection. CONDITION: Given a highly motivated, certified MWD Team. STANDARD: In accordance with post S.O.P.’s and FM 3-19.17 (pg 7-2)

Briefing unit commanders All unit commanders should be briefed on availability and capabilities of the MWD’s. The Kennel Master, Provost Marshal, CID, and MPI are all responsible for the information to all levels of commanders.

REQUESTING K-9 SUPPORT Unit commanders will coordinate through the PMO, Kennel Master, and S3 for all health and welfare inspections.

INFORMATION COMMANDERS SHOULD HAVE The requested time of the inspection The areas to be inspected The number of living quarters The number and size of common areas Other pertinent information

Once coordinating instructions have been established, the Kennel Master will coordinate a time and location to brief the commander and demonstrate the MWD’s capabilities.

OPSEC It is important the OPSEC is practiced. Only inform those personnel who have an immediate need to know. This usually consists of the commander and 1SG or sergeant major.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT The Kennel Master will then contact the Provost Marshal and Military Police Investigations supervisor if any additional support is needed.

ACTIONS ON A RESPONSE If the MWD responds on any locked item the soldier will then be summoned to the item and instructed to open it. Unit representatives conduct a detailed search of the item and its contents.
