The Passover a type and shadow of our redemption In Christ Jesus
A Story of Slavery The Children of Israel had not intended to stay in Egypt very long, but before long the Egyptians enslaved most of them. Many harsh and horrible decrees were passed against the Children of Israel in that time.
A Story of a Deliverer Finally, God spoke to Moses and told him to bring the good news to the Children of Israel that God was ready to take them out of Egypt. "I am God, and I will take you away from the oppression of Egypt, I will free you from their slavery..." God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to allow the Children of Israel to leave Egypt. If Pharaoh refused, God would punish him and all Egyptians.
Pharaoh refused to let God’s people go. The death of the first born
Passover lamb of sacrifice Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.
The blood that was shed And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason;
Delivered from death For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
Passover Feast begins And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever. …..And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service? That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the Lord's passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses.
The events that took place were designed to look forward as an earnest of the great sacrifice of the Lamb of God in the fullness of time, instead of us and our first-born. We were obnoxious to the sword of the destroying angel, but Christ our passover was sacrificed for us, his death was our life, and thus he was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, from the foundation of the Jewish church: Moses kept the passover by faith in Christ, for Christ was the end of the law for righteousness.
The Passover Feast Continues
Matt 26:26-29 And Jesus said, Take, eat …. drink 26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, praising God, gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use, and when He had broken it, He gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body. 27 And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you; 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. [Ex 24:6-8.] 29 I say to you, I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it with you new and of superior quality in My Father's kingdom. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
A story of slavery to the devil and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. Gal 4:7 7 Therefore, you are no longer a slave (bond servant) but a son; and if a son, then [it follows that you are] an heir by the aid of God, through Christ.
A story of a deliverer Gal 3:13-14 13 Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the Cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse. 14 And now, because of that, the air is cleared and we can see that Abraham's blessing is present and available for non-Jews, too. We are all able to receive God's life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing — just the way Abraham received it.
The death of the first born
Jesus, The Passover Lamb "Though there were with us, even with us, sins against the Lord our God, for which the destroying angel, when he was abroad doing execution, might justly have destroyed our first-born too, yet God graciously appointed and accepted the family-sacrifice of a lamb, instead of the first-born
The blood that was shed
Deliverance from the slavery of death and sin Col 2:15 15 [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].
Jesus our Messiah is raised from the dead And we are raised to newness of life
