My Veterinarian Career Choice By: Miya Gunn

Why I want to be a Veterinarian Growing up I had always loved animals, all of them, but there was one certain point when I decided to choose my destiny. One day I went driving with my mom and we saw a dog on the side of the street that looked like it was thrown out of the car door or a window. It didn’t move but it had heavy breathing so we knew it was alive. That night we wrapped the dog in a towel we had in the trunk of the car and brought it home in hopes of saving it. We placed it down where finally I could get a good look at it and it was tragic. It was a white miniature Chihuahua and it had guts spilling out of its anus. It was in absolute pain and it was internally bleeding. I couldn’t do anything about it and my mom called the vet but they didn’t care. The dog died that night. I was only 7 and after experiencing that I’ve wanted to be able to do something for animals around the world that were in need.

What I Originally Thought I needed to be One As a veterinarian I know I would have to present myself to tasks such as spaying and neutering, setting broken bones, treating wounds and providing geriatric care for older pets. I also will remove tumors and find homes for homeless pets.- information from google I will have to get used to the sight of blood and guts if I really want to help and I’ve actually been watching many videos to the point where I’ve gotten used to seeing it but now I have to get used to touching it when I’m older. I will do anything to help. I soon realized this was not enough when I came to study.

Requirements I need to be a Veterinarian Veterinarians are required to complete a four-year Doctor of Medicine program, in addition to undergraduate school. These professionals are also required to obtain licensure to practice in the profession. To enter a veterinary course you have to earn the Bachelor’s Degree. After earning a DVM, future Veterinarians also have to obtain a license. After that I have to take a 7.5 hour test that has 360 questions. – information from study.com I have to take many tests such as the drug test and a house hold test but after that the last thing I have to do is get accepted into a Veterinary school which could take many years. Even though I know all of this I still want to succeed and try my best.

Veterinary Work Environment and Conditions. I’ve found that, not all veterinarians work in a traditional clinic setting. Veterinarians who treat horses and other livestock must travel between their offices and farms or ranches. They work outdoors in all kinds of weather and may have to perform surgery, often under unsanitary conditions. Those working in food safety and inspection also travel to farms, or even slaughterhouses and food-processing plants. Some veterinarians choose to conduct research, and work in a laboratory or office. These veterinarians spend little time working with animals. I myself will work as A veterinary in the clinic and one that goes out and helps people when no other Veterinarian could. During my free time I plan to save animals from slaughterhouses and heal them, but that may be to far fetched for my ability and schedule. –information from different websites listed on google Everything will be worth it because I know I will be helping an animal while making the family happy without having to worry.

Schools I may attend to For now my choice is UT College of Veterinary Medicine. I think this is a great College because right now it’s the best one in Tennessee an I don’t want to aim towards less. I also want to be the best in my career. Picking the college best for you is really important s I think going ere would be a great choice because it has many different fields I can choose from.

How much Education I will really need To get my Bachelor’s Degree I need to be in an average college for two years. I haven’t decided which school yet. I want to be sure to pick the right college for me. After that I may move to a better environment to spend my eight years of study to be a veterinarian. I want to go to the greatest school possible that I can actually be accepted into. To officially become a veterinarian it will take me approximately ten years, but that’s if I’m lucky. Veterinary schools are hard to get into. -info from study.com

Higher Positions A beginner Veterinarian that only sits in the clinic usually gets about $50,480 a year. I want to be a traveling vet that goes out when you are really in need. With my idea I would be receiving about $88,000 to $91,250 a year. To receive my desired amount a first have to go through a lot of training. I could also get more than that. There is no specific amount but depending on my location and how many people trust me with their animal, I may receive, $100,340 a year.-information from google

Possible Benefits Veterinarians get paid even during the holidays when they are not working.

Personal Values A natural ability that I need to be a Veterinarian is patience. It may take time for me to explain to procedures and listen to questions from the owners. I will also need the ability to learn and remember things easily. To be a Veterinarian I need this because if there was an emergency and I was needed, then I wouldn’t have time to go to the book and refresh my memory on what I need for that certain procedure.
