ACRYLIC PLASTIC By Vale

WHAT IS ACRYLIC PLASTIC? Acrylic Plastic has another name ‘Poly(methyl methacrylate)’ Acrylic Plastic is a transparent thermo-plastic often used in sheets as a lightweight or shatter-resistant alternative to glass.

HOW IS ACRYLIC PLASTIC MADE? Acrylic plastic sheets are formed by a process known as bulk polymerization. In this process, the monomer and catalyst are poured into a mold where the reaction takes place. Two methods of bulk polymerization may be used: batch cell or continuous. Batch cell is the most common because it is simple and is easily adapted for making acrylic sheets in thicknesses from cm and widths from 0.9 m up to several hundred feet. The continuous method is quicker and involves less labour. It is used to make sheets of thinner thicknesses and smaller withstand.

HOW AND WHY DOES IT DAMAGE THE ENVIRONMENT? Scrap Acrylic is an industrial waste, not only having a impact on the environment but also on the cost of production of Acrylic Sheets. Acrylic plastics are not easily biodegradable. Some acrylic plastics could be highly flammable! Plastic pollution is in the environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat and humans.

IS IT RECYCLE OR SUSTAINABLE? Acrylic plastic is not recycled easily. It is possible to form large pieces into useful objects in case they have not suffered crazing, stress or cracking. These are not readily biodegradable. Acrylic is one of those materials that is horrible on the environment but it is amazingly sustainable once it is produced. It has a very long lifespan
