Summer, 2016 Externship
Currently, there is a huge demand for skilled workers in Oregon
Our graduates at Cascade can go get a job…often minimum wage…
Construction, manufacturing, diesel mechanics, truck drivers, etc Construction, manufacturing, diesel mechanics, truck drivers, etc. are just a few of the areas where reported shortages are present. These jobs pay beyond the minimum wage.
Skills must be taught…hard skills, such as welding and diesel mechanics must be learned.
Employers are also looking for qualified individuals who possess “soft skills”…
How does one train for a career in industry?
High Schools need to offer and expand their CTE offerings…
An advanced degree provides opportunities for students to make themselves marketable
Apprenticeships are available…but highly competitive
Cascade High School is committed to providing students with opportunities to secure good jobs…
Hard and Soft skills will be emphasized
So our students can reach new heights
Often, students just do not know the opportunities available…
They may not understand where the shortages are, and how they can secure good positions…
But that will change…
