Welcome back! Upcoming events in science: Today: Finish light and space topic Tomorrow: Finish rotation/revolution model Friday: Review Next Wednesday, March 20th (Day 6) is TEST DAY

Review Questions The imaginary line that runs through the middle of the Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole is called the Earth’s ____________. It is ____________ at an angle of ____________. The Earth spins upon itself. It takes ____________ for a full spin. The earth spinning on itself is called ____________. The Earth orbits around the sun. It takes ____________ for one full orbit. The Earth going around the sun is called ____________. The moon orbits around the Earth. It moves in a ____________ direction. It takes approximately ____________ for one full orbit. axis tilted 23º 1 day rotation 365 and ¼ days revolution counter-clockwise 1 month

Review Questions When the Northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun, it is ____________ in the Northern hemisphere and ____________ in the Southern hemisphere. The middle part of the Earth that receives the most direct sunlight on average is the ____________. The day with the most hours of daylight in the Northern hemisphere is ____________. On this day, the Southern hemisphere gets the least amount of sunlight. This day is referred to as the ____________. On ____________ and ____________, both the Northern and Southern hemisphere experience the same amounts of sunlight. This is called the ____________. summer winter equator June 21st solstice March 21st September 21st equinox

What is an eclipse? This is when the sun, Earth, and moon are all aligned. This doesn’t happen very often because the moon’s orbit is tilted. When an eclipse happens, a shadow is cast by either the moon or the Earth on the other.

Summary Lunar Eclipse Solar Eclipse Earth casts a shadow on the moon The moon casts a shadow on the Earth. The moon is in the Earth’s umbra. The Earth is in the moon’s umbra.
