LCHS Exploratory Courses March 2019

You Work Hard - Let’s Have Some Fun We know high school can cause students a lot of stress, so several teachers have been working to reward you for your efforts while also trying out something new. This March, we’re offering all LC students a chance to explore a new interest or pursue an existing passion. Our goal is to put some fun back into learning and celebrate your hard work.

Introducing LC Exploratory Courses!! How will it work? We will not have PAWS during the last three weeks of March. On March 14th, 21st, and 28th (Thursdays) we’ll follow an early release schedule. Instead of leaving after 6th, you’ll attend an exploratory course of your choice. Choose from over 30 course offerings from LC staff!

Nuts & Bolts: Eligibility You will ALL register for your top three courses today, but your eligibility to participate will be based on your mid-quarter 3 grades. You must be passing ALL your classes with 70% or better to be eligible. ELD/SPED students must be passing all classes with a 60% or better OR with ELD/Case Manager approval. If you are NOT eligible at MQ3, you will be assigned to a study hall during exploratory time to work on bringing up your grades.

Nuts & Bolts: Protocols Once your eligibility is determined, your status won’t change (you can’t become eligible by turning in a missing essay in mid-March). You’ll be attending the same exploratory class for the whole three- week period. Teachers will only accept students into their courses who are on their official rosters (you can’t change your mind at the last minute). Attendance will be taken just like any other class (the normal rules apply).

It’s time to register! Please read over the course catalog (gold document) and choose your TOP THREE courses. We will do our best to give everyone their first choice, but space is limited, so choose wisely. Fill out the half-sheet registration form (yellow document). Turn it in; we will be around to collect your forms at the end of PAWS. Today. Hurry!

Any Questions? Feel free to come and find Ms. Haxton (room 223) or Mr. Lang (room 221) if you need help with anything. Thank you, LC! We look forward to embarking on this adventure with you all this spring!
