Adaption in the West
Using the Past to Gather a Prediction Using your knowledge from Chapter 13 make a 2 sentence hypothesis on how the eastern settlers adapted to traveling with wagons to the west. Think about the ways the settlers dealt with transporting of goods, animals and their families.
Adapting to Travel The class will be broken into 4 groups, 2 groups will split article one and the other 2 groups will split article two. After 5-7 minutes of reading groups will rotate to different groups as classmates explain to each other what each part of the article was about (3-5 minutes per group).
Adapting to be Successful After rotations are complete each group will discuss (5 minutes) how they have had to adapt in a situation in order to be successful at something in their life, whether it is changing a study habit to pass a test or changing a practice habit to complete a physical activity.
Making a Connection In a Venn diagram, double bubble map (3 details per column) or a paragraph with at least 3 details, students will compare their adaption stories to those of the eastern settlers traveling west. If students chose to write the paragraph be sure to use a focus statement and conclusion sentence.
