What is it? DOCUMENT BASED QUESTION Prompt Set of docs Up to 7 15 min. planning period What do you know? OI Analyze docs What is your argument? 45 min. writing time

What do you need to do? Write on one of the HTS Causation CCOT Why did ____ happen? CCOT What changed? Why? How? What stayed the same? Comparison b/t time periods, regions, ethnic groups, ideas Periodization/TAP Turning points Why is it labeled ____ period? Era? Movement?

You must… Argue a point Appropriately use EVIDENCE Contextualization Is your info. relevant? Does it advance your argument? Contextualization Make sense of events going on w/in time period Synthesis Connect ideas and come to greater understanding of larger event/idea

AP means… ANSWER THE PROMPT! The rest? Evidence? Look at question Circle main words What do you have to do? How many parts are there? Compare? CCOT? Is there a time period specified? The rest? Formulate a thesis that answers ALL parts of the question Support thesis with EVIDENCE Evidence? The documents + OI

Docs Take ALL that is given, break it down, use to support argument BUT… THE ESSAY IS NOT ABOUT THE DOCUMENTS! NEVER, EVER, EVER… Doc. A says… No explanations No quotes! NO SUMMARIES! Docs used should support your argument As read, pay attention to parts of doc. that BACK YOU UP! Underline, circle
