Periodic table Groups and periods Groups are the vertical columns in the PT. There are 18 groups Periods are the horizontal row in the PT. There are 7 periods Metals, nonmetals, metalloids and noble gases.
Metals Located on the left side of the zigzag line on the PT They have silvery luster They are malleable (become sheets) They are ductile (become wire) They are good conductors of heat and electricity Solid except for mercury (Hg)
Non Metals They are located on the right side of the zigzag They are brittle Poor conductors of heat and electricity Solid, liquid and gas
Metalloids They are found on the zigzag line They have properties of metals and non metals Use widely as superconductors, computers, etc
Noble gases Also called INERT GASES Located in group 18 All of them are gases!!! They are unreactive (except Xe reacts - F)
