PERSONIFICATION

Personification Is giving human qualities, feelings, actions or characteristics to an inanimate (not living) object.

Personification Examples The snow is a white blanket.  The hospital was a refrigerator. The classroom was a zoo. America is a melting pot.   Her lovely voice was music to his ears.  Life is a rollercoaster. The car complained as the key was turned. Rita heard the last piece of pie calling her name. My alarm clock yells at me every morning. The avalanche devoured anything standing in its way. Traffic slowed to a crawl

More Personification Examples Look at my car. She is a beauty, isn’t she? The wind whispered through dry grass. The flowers swayed in the gentle breeze. Time and tide wait for none. The fire swallowed the entire forest.

Personification in Songs No sun will shine in my day today The high yellow moon won’t come out to play I said darkness has covered my light, And has changed my day into night, yeah – Bob Marley And so today, my world it smiles Your hand in mine, we walk the miles, Thanks to you it will be done, For you to me are the only one - Led Zeppelin

Personification in Songs Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go. So make the best of this test and don’t ask why. It’s not a question but a lesson learned in time - Green Day You remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold - Sting

Personification Poetry She sweeps with many-colored brooms (by Emily Dickinson) She sweeps with many-colored brooms, And leaves the shreds behind; Oh, housewife in the evening west, Come back, and dust the pond!

Personification (#4) 15 lines 3 stanzas You will write from the perspective of an inanimate object Think about statements I see, I hear, I touch, I smell, I taste, I feel, I am Your poem will tell a short story from perspective of that object

Personification Poetry I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud (By William Wordsworth) I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o’er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
