FG Nups (containing Phenylalanine-Glycine repeats) provide docking sites for transport factors called karyopherins, which bind cargo containing nuclear or ciliary localization signals (NLSs and CLSs, respectively) and facilitate nuclear and ciliary transport. So-called transition zone proteins in cilia connect the plasma membrane and the region between the microtubules and the basal body. The ciliary pore complex is thought to be located in this zone.
