Part II Short Answer Questions During this time period whites could easily vote while blacks had to pass the Literacy Test, pay a Poll Tax, and deal with the Grandfather Clause. 2a) Nast’s purpose for drawing this cartoon was to show the North and the Federal Government what was happening in the South.

Part II Short Answer Questions 2b) Lincoln's point of view makes this document a reliable source because he is the President of the United States and we learned in class that all he cared about was saving the Union, he didn’t really care about slavery. 2b) This source is not reliable because the author is a Southern Plantation owner and they needed slaves to work on the plantation. He is biased and would never say that they should outlaw slavery.

Part II Short Answer Questions 2b) The author’s purpose was to tell people that the 15th amendment was ratified and now African Americans can vote. In class we learned that African Americans could vote after the 15th amendment was ratified so this is a reliable source. 2b) The author’s audience was the American people and the state governments.
