It’ll Get You a Job “Being able to speak other languages is a skill that gets you ahead” The UK trades with over 200 countries worldwide (Source: Trade Partners UK, 2002) "UK businesses need people with language skills, to operate at all levels." Why study a language? Nearly half of British companies are having problems dealing with the international aspects of their business. Only 11% of them have a strategy to solve the problems. 20% of companies know that they have lost business as a result of language barriers. Companies who value language skills make more money!

Millions of people use their language skills every day. Here are some examples of sectors in which people with languages work

THE ARMY Why does the Army prefer people who have learnt a language? For their communication skills For their ability to learn other languages For the opportunity it creates to work abroad with other civilians.

ICT LOTS OF MONEY TO BE MADE HERE! Big companies develop programmes to be used all over the world. They need people to provide technical support everywhere, not just in the UK If you are good at ICT and have language skills you are in great demand.

CATERING There are lots of chances to gain experience abroad while you are training. If you have no language skills, somebody else will be sent
