How to Cook Up a Main Event Blend together: Slow-Motion Action (stretch it out) Dialogue Description The main character’s thoughts/feelings Show, don’t tell! Make it come ALIVE! Ex: I spilled a whole pot of soup and made a big mess.

Main Events DO-NOTS

1. Superman/Act of God- author can't solve the problem so a hero comes in to save the day 2. Grocery List- list of things that don't affect the outcome 3. Another problem- one problem is enough 4. What's the point?- no main event at all

You spotted a wolf in the woods. Try it! You spotted a wolf in the woods. Slow motion action: Tell what you’re doing/the wolf is doing with arms, hands, feet, legs, etc. Description: the wolf Main character’s reaction: What does your face look like? What you say? (Dialogue) What sounds do you hear? How do you react to the sounds?
