Energy-Saving Lighting Program

Program Goals Provide better lit spaces that are energy-efficient, are cost effective, help to improve the quality of the lighting for people who will use the space being lighted, and highlight the quality of merchandise and display items being exhibited.

Why Make the Switch? 4-foot, 4-lamp, high-output, energy-saving fluorescent light fixtures with multi-tap electronic ballasts provide maximum light output at a far lower cost than other fixtures. These fixtures light instantly, without any warm-up phase. New, smaller fixtures take up less space and create a cleaner, streamlined look. They also produce lower heat output, cutting back on internal BTUs.

More Light, Less Space Smaller, more energy efficient fixtures are more streamlined, providing a cleaner, less cluttered look. You get more light, use fewer kilowatts, and save money. The majority of light is concentrated down, rather than up or out.

Energy-Efficient Lighting Our new 4-foot, 4-lamp, high-output, energy-saving fluorescent light fixtures with multi-tap electronic ballasts are engineered to use less energy, which saves you money. The high-lamp reflection ability of these fixtures produces a high-quality, true natural light that is bright and clear. This lighting technology produces higher and more compressed light color rendering.

Save Energy Replace inefficient 400-watt metal halide fixtures with new, high-output, energy-efficient fluorescent light fixtures. Replace 4-foot tandem runway lights with new, high-output, energy-efficient fluorescent light fixtures. Replace 2’x4’ lay-in fixtures with new, high-output, energy-efficient fluorescent light fixtures.

Save Money Save money on utility bills by using less energy. Reduce kilowatt consumption by drastically reducing wattage of light, and yet gain greater footcandles of illumination where it is needed. Enroll in NYSERDA’s Existing Facilities Program and receive reimbursement incentives for a portion of the cost of the project. New fixtures are less expensive to maintain. Lamp life averages 20,000 hours of operation. In a 4-lamp fixture, if one lamp fails, 75% of light output remains, unlike in other fixtures.

Savings Per Year

Better Light After: 4-ft, 4-lamp energy-saving fluorescent fixtures Before: 400-watt metal halide fixtures New 4-foot, 4-lamp, high-output, energy-saving fluorescent light fixtures with multi-tap electronic ballasts provide improved lighting.

What Else Can Lighting Do For You? Well-placed lighting can draw customers to areas of interest and peak sales. Clean, clear lighting creates better product display, showcasing your merchandise and peripheral items. A well-lit store is inviting and attractive to customers, enticing them to shop for longer periods of time. Proper lighting aids in morale of employees, creating a pride factor. Appropriate lighting creates an environment of integrity, high technology, and instills the concept of customer care.

Some Lighting Factors to Consider Color Rendering Index (CRI) Simply stated, the proper CRI will assure that colors and skin tones appear natural to the people who use the space. The 4-lamp, 32-watt fixtures we will install have a CRI of 85. This means blues are blue, reds are red, and yellows are yellow. Lumens Simply stated, lumen is the summation of light output of a lamp. The 4-lamp, 32-watt fixtures we will install have a rating of 3050 lumens, providing plenty of light for clear and pleasing illumination of the retail area and the merchandise.

Save on Air Conditioning Costs Heat output of these new fixtures is substantially less, creating lower ambient temperature, and ultimately causing the HVAC equipment to operate more efficiently. Replacing these fixtures will lead to substantial savings in air conditioning costs, not calculated in the return on investment. This savings is increased even more because air conditioning is used most often at peak energy rate periods also not calculated in the return on investment.

Energy Efficiency Energy efficiency is environmentally responsible. Energy efficiency is economically responsible. Energy efficiency is politically responsible. Energy efficiency lends itself to the concept of GOING GREEN.
