INTRODUCTION - Energy Conservation Act (ECA) – Bureau Of Energy Efficiency (BEE) - Energy Efficiency Improvements - Establish Systems & Procedures - To Verify, Test, Measure & Monitor TO IMPLEMENT S&L programme - Co-opt Necessary In-puts From R&D institutes, Technical Agents Of Government & Private Sectors

CPRI – INFRASTRUCTURE -Established in MOP, GOI. - Over USD 100 million investment in testing & Certification since inception -CPRI is a reputed testing laboratory catering to the needs of electrical industries in India and also for Asian & African countries.

STRENGTH OF CPRI - CPRI is having strong intellectual base with seven units spread across the country. - CPRI has best infrastructure in India for Testing & Certification. - Good track record of R&D. - National /International accreditation

- CPRIs unique testing facilities also includes requirements of BEE for S&L programme for products such as : - Refrigerators - Geysers - Motors - Fans - Luminaries etc., STRENGTH OF CPRI

BUREAU OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY - BEE has notified following products for S&L programme in first phase. - Refrigerators - Air-conditioners - Geysers - Motors & Agricultural pump sets - Electric light sources - Fans & Industrial fans - Blowers & Air-compressors

FACILITIES AVAILABLE AT CPRI - Refrigerators :- IS:1476(part-1) All Mechanical tests - Load adjustment tests - No-load performance tests - Rated energy consumption tests - Internal frost / De-frost tests & - Other safety tests Being augmented to meet BEE guidelines.

FACILITIES PLANNED BY CPRI - New testing facility planned for S&L programme of BEE for Air-conditioners up to 3 TR capacity. - State – Of – The – Art testing facility Balanced Ambient Calorimeter (BAC) with an estimated cost of Rs.350 Lakhs to accommodate BEE guide lines, harmonised national & international standards.

FACILITIES PLANNED BY CPRI - In addition to the existing facilities CPRI is augmenting refrigerators testing facility - By procuring a tailor made Walk - In Environmental Chamber meeting the requirements of BEE guidelines. WILL BE READY BY THE END OF 2004

FACILITIES PLANNED BY CPRI - For the other Electrical Appliances like Geysers,Fans & Industrial fans & Blowers, Agricultural pump sets and Electric light sources Augmentation of existing facilities have been taken up by CPRI towards meeting the BEE guidelines specifically.

ACCREDITATION - COMPETENCE OF LABORATORY - WELL DEFINED QUALITY SYSTEM - CUSTOMER CONFIDENCE

CONCLUSIONS - CPRI with its comprehensive testing facilities and being a pioneer third party Testing & Certification body, has earned national and international recognition. - CPRI offers BEE to take full advantage of these unique facilities for implementation of S&L programme.
