LRPC Planning Assumptions In Tokyo Three Provocative Planning Assumptions Were Discussed By Three Small Groups: The underlying cause of apparent trend toward lower membership is a direct result of natural business trends worldwide LESI may have three years of variable meeting attendance Knowledge of how entities transfer & license technology is available from many providers today

Assumption 1 Statement: Group 1 Observations: The underlying cause of our membership trend is a direct result of natural business trends worldwide Group 1 Observations: “If no changes: Membership will decrease” “Therefore change is required”

Assumption 1 Group 1 Thoughts On What Actions To Take: International Industry focused meetings; conducted by pharma, auto, consumer electronics, etc. Provide better networking Focus on International training in developing countries to build their and overall membership Cooperate with business organizations Offer corporate memberships Offer corporate education. I.e. LES China to provide Licensing training to individual large companies in China

Assumption 1 Group 1 Thoughts On What Actions To Take: Cooperate with Government organizations such as WPO and SIPO Formal image development. I.e. code of conduct, CLP, etc. Offer CLE (Certified Licensing Educator), CLP (Certified Licensing Professional), other blessing Create and foster development of IP markets worldwide

Assumption 2 Statement: Group 2 Observations: LESI may have three years of variable meeting attendance; Philippines, South Africa, Australia   Group 2 Observations: “Only 10-15% of business / corporate members who attended Zurich will attend the next few years’ meetings” “200-250 attendance is the likely number to expect in the Philippines, and attendee background will be mostly lawyers, not business / corporate members”

Assumption 2 Statement: Group 2 Observations (Continued): LESI may have three years of variable meeting attendance; Philippines, South Africa, Australia   Group 2 Observations (Continued): China could be a wild card if the meeting committee recruited top business leaders in China and had them as keynote speakers. Focus meeting on “place to be for technology transfer in and out of China” Group 2 was mixed with two irresolvable views of whether or not to continue at the selected sites

Assumption 2 Group 2 Thoughts On What Actions To Take: Divide LESI into three regions around the world for meeting purposes Rotate the meetings from region to region each year Balance “encouraging small society’s locations” with “business city destinations” Board or other leadership must drive selection of location versus the current “self-nominating” process

Assumption 2 Group 2 Thoughts On What Actions To Take: Interaction with pan-European to retain LES attendance when LESI annual conference is likely to have low attendance because of location. Want to keep business company members engaged with LESI in years when they will not attend the LESI annual meeting Put in place a feedback mechanism between attendance at meetings and the content provided. Need to then act on feedback received

Assumption 2 Group 2 Thoughts On What Actions To Take: Competitors such as AIPPI have indicated an interest in co-sponsoring meetings and we should accept such offers Target marketing to attract business people Target marketing to attract China members

Assumption 3 Statement: Group 3 Observations: Knowledge of how individuals, companies and other entities facilitate the transfer of technology, licensing of intellectual property and use intellectual property is available from an increasing number of providers Group 3 Observations: “Competition is growing” “Market size is also growing”

Assumption 3 Statement: Group 3 Observations: Knowledge of how individuals, companies and other entities facilitate the transfer of technology, licensing of intellectual property and use intellectual property is available from an increasing number of providers Group 3 Observations: “LES has a competitive advantage” Having both a business focus and legal focus is unique Practical learning International aspects Diversity of members is a marketing issue Neutrality

Assumption 3 Group 3 Thoughts On What Actions To Take: Promote international advantages of LESI Increase deal focus and networking of LESI Have a strong local chapter focus LESI participation at regional level should include training AGM’s, LESI winter meeting in region Increase relevance to public policy issues Differential marketing to: Lawyers Universities Industry

Assumption 3 Group 3 Thoughts On What Actions To Take: Attract young members via providing broader and more frequent access to content and learning about Intellectual Asset Management Transferability of individual memberships Fewer international delegates meetings Members who are speakers at LESI meeting should receive the same treatment as non-LESI members. I.e. have their meeting registration waived and the same travel expenses reimbursed
