UAlbany Compliance Corner February 2019 Edition Spring Break Recess Housing Please remind your student-athletes that will be remaining on campus for spring break that the Recess Housing Application goes live February 12. They can complete the application via MyInvolvement. Family Lodging at Postseason Events. An institution may reserve or secure lodging at any postseason event (other than a conference event) at a reduced or special rate for the family members of a student-athlete who is a participant. It is not permissible for an institution to cover any portion of the cost of lodging, including any cost associated with reserving or securing lodging. Nutritional Supplements The following questions may help in determining if providing a nutritional supplement is permissible: Can this nutritional supplement legitimately be classified as a carbohydrate booster, a fluid/electrolyte replacement drink, a protein supplement or a standard vitamin/mineral? Does this nutritional supplement list any added dietary ingredients that are not vitamins, minerals, or pure proteins? If yes, the institution may not provide the nutritional supplement to a student-athlete. Does the product's list of ingredients contain proprietary blends and/or ingredients that make claims regarding health and performance? If so, this product may place itself outside the realm of accuracy, safety and legitimacy, and should not be provided to student-athletes. NOTE: Omega-3 fatty acids are now a permissible supplement Spot the Violation Leslie Knope is a prospective student-athlete unofficially visiting UAlbany with her divorced parents and her stepparents. During the trip she is provided: A campus tour by a current student-athlete A meal with other prospective student-athletes that is purchased by her father 5 complimentary admissions to a home basketball game Special parking next to SEFCU Arena for the game Were all actions permissible for an unofficial visit?
