St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality Improvements Background: St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality is a shelter that provides services for people in need within the Rochester community. The first floor of the facility is utilized to provide shelter during the winter and to serve food throughout the year. Problem Statement: In order to provide better services, the team is working on improving the sleeping operations without hindering current operations. St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality Improvements Connor Pierce, Ezra Weinstein, Ken Postel, Alice Komrowski, Sharon Im We are working with St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality, which is a hospitality house that provides services for people in need in downtown rochester. They utilize the first floor to provide food throughout the year and shelter during the winter months. Overall, the shelter operations are tedious and time consuming. Therefore, our team is working with them to provide better services by improving their shelter operations, focusing on their setup and clean-up operations and their storage operations.

Design Process Aerial Sleeping Storage Ideas To analyze the process, we utilized both engineering and industrial design tools to generate ideas. For example, we used a functional decomposition to analyze the exact functions of the systems and break them down to assess the needs and requirements related to each function. From there, we worked with mind mapping to help generate ideas for improvements. One constraint that we had was on space within the facility. Concepts drawings were created the top ideas were selected through Pugh’s selection criteria methods.

Product Design Status After discussing with the customer, we decided to move forward with a platform like storage idea for the sleeping material storage and also with a cart storing method for personal items. We are currently working on creating the 3D CAD drawings for the sleeping storage platform lift concept on Autodesk Fusion 360.
