Harold in Italy Berlioz

Questions Which new instruments do we have since the Haydn symphony? In the Haydn most of the melodies were in the violin parts. When do violins first appear and what role do they play until bar 71? Compare the viola parts for the Haydn and the Berlioz. What new things are the violas expected to do? Cadence and key of bars 134-135? What does con sord and arco mean? (Bar 166, celllo part).

Questions Name the chord played by the violas on the 1st beat of bar 1. How does it relate to the key of the movement? What type of instrument is a Cor Anglais? What is special about the notation of music for this instrument? What is an idee fixe? How does this term relate to this movement? Summarise the structure of this entire movement in a single short sentence. State two reasons why Paganini might have found this work unsatisfactory to reflect his talents as a virtuoso string player.
