Illinois State Spotlight 2013 Cohort

One Initiative We Have Been Working On Analyze current structure and generate recommendations for special education endorsements, taking into consideration national standards for educator preparation and student learning; national practices; and relevant research.

What We Have Accomplished Reviewed national and state licensure practices Developed our plan of action via the technical blue print Garnered our list of community stakeholders Begun the process of rendering recommendations

How We Achieved Our Accomplishment Brought together different group representatives Study the past as we planned the future Direct dialogue regarding the process and the outcomes Persistence is the key!!! Final goal of raising academic outcomes for students with disabilities

Take Aways: Be patient- working with a variety of community stakeholders means patience. Be persistent- continue to keep the end goal in mind Be flexible- reconfigure and regroup as needed Keep the goal in mind-raising academic outcomes for all our students

Our Next Steps Draft our recommendations regarding licensure for special education teacher candidates Present the draft recommendations to the community stakeholders Develop final recommendations Disseminate the recommendations to all entities Present the recommendations to ISBE Licensure Board
