Unit: Water and the Atmosphere Lesson 2: Surface Water Essential Questions: 1.) What is a river system? 2.) What are ponds and lakes? 3.) How can lakes change?

What is a river system? A river system is all the streams and smaller rivers that flow into it.

Tributaries are the streams and smaller rivers that feed into the main river.

Find the tributaries in the river system.

A watershed is the land area that supplies water to a river system. Where are the 5 watersheds?

A divide is a ridge of land that separates one watershed from another.

Find the divide in the watershed.
