Photosynthesis or Respiration?? Video Questions All living things get the energy they need to live from a chemical reaction called respiration. Living cells respire. Bright Sunlight Carbon Dioxide Oxygen Respiration always takes place. However, more oxygen is produced by Photosynthesis than is used by Respiration.

Dim Sunlight Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Respiration still takes place. This time the SAME amount of oxygen is produced by Photosynthesis that is used by Respiration.

Darkness Respiration still takes place. Photosynthesis does not occur as there is no light. No oxygen is produced.
