The Vegetable Group There are six subgroups: Dark-Green Red Orange Beans Peas Starchy

Veggies should be 30% of your plate Fresh, frozen or canned veggies are all great options to use. For canned veggies, try to buy those that say “reduced sodium, low sodium or no salt added. Try to make your plate as colorful as possible!

The Fruit Group Fruits provide nutrients vital for health. They are naturally low in fat, sodium and calories and do not contain cholesterol. When drinking fruit juice make sure it says “100% fruit juice” on the label. Fruits may be fresh, canned, frozen, dried, or pureed (like a smoothie).

Fruit should be 20% of your plate Helpful tips: Keep a bowl of fruit on the counter/table Include fruit in your breakfast and lunch Snack on fruits Always rinse your fruit and dry with a towel
