OBJEKTIF MATEMATIK KBSM The mathematics curriculum for the secondary school enables students to: understand definitions, concepts, laws, principles and theorems related to Numbers, Shape and Space, and Relationships; widen applications of basic fundamental skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division related to Numbers, Shape and Space, and Relationships; acquire basic mathematical skills such as: • making estimation and rounding; • measuring and constructing; • collecting and handling data; • representing and interpreting data; • recognising and representing relationship mathematically using algorithm and relationship; • solving problem; and • making decision. communicate mathematically; apply knowledge and the skills of mathematics in solving problems and making decisions; relate mathematics with other areas of knowledge; use suitable technologies in concept building, acquiring skills, solving problems and exploring the field of mathematics; cultivate mathematical knowledge and skills effectively and responsibly; inculcate positive attitudes towards mathematics; and appreciate the importance and the beauty of mathematics.

BIDANG PEMBELAJARAN Tiga bidang pembelajaran Numbers, Shape and Space, and Relationship. The topics for each area have been been arranged according to hierarchy . The basics have to be taught before abstract concepts can be introduced to students.

PENEKANAN Adakah penekanan dalam KBSM berbeza dengan KBSR? Problem Solving in Mathematics Communication in mathematics Reasoning in Mathematics Mathematical Connections Application of Technology Adakah penekanan dalam KBSM berbeza dengan KBSR?

PENDEKATAN P&P Seperti juga p&p KBSR, KBSM menekankan Student-centered learning that is interesting; Different learning abilities and styles of students; Usage of relevant, suitable and effective teaching materials; and Formative evaluation to determine the effectiveness of teaching and learning. Approaches that are considered suitable include the following: Cooperative learning; Contextual learning; Mastery learning; Constructivism; Enquiry-discovery; and Future Studies.

PENILAIAN Different methods of assessment can be conducted. These maybe in the form of assignments, oral questioning and answering, observations and interviews. Based on the response, teachers can rectify students’ misconceptions and weaknesses and also improve their own teaching skills.
