Page 12 Quality Criteria Initial & Maintained scope initial & maintained claims of LED luminaires; to establish confidence in the product data provided; acceptance or rejection of quality over life is out of the scope! Maintained values are measured at 25% of rated life time up to a max. of hours technical definitions measurement methods limiting values
Page 13 Quality Criteria Mentioned In The IEC/PAS 1)rated input power (in W); 2)rated luminous flux (in lm); 3)LED luminaire efficacy (in lm/W); 4)luminous intensity distribution; 5)Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT in K); 6)rated Colour Rendering Index (CRI); 7)rated chromaticity co-ordinate values (initial and maintained); 8)maintained luminous flux Performance claims are always measured at a specific ambient temperature (t q ). Maintained values are measured at 25% of rated life time up to a max. of hours.
Page 14 Photometric Code six digit photometric code displays important quality of light parameters initial CRI value of 84 – code 8; initial CCT value of 3000K – code 30; initial spread of chromaticity co-ordinates within a 3-step MacAdam ellipse – code 3; maintained spread of chromaticity co-ordinates within a 5-step MacAdam ellipse – code 5; maintained luminous flux of 91% – code 9. Maintained values are measured at 25% of rated life time up to a max. of hours. 830/359

Page 17 Lumen Maintenance Claims This is about lumen maintenance of LEDs used in a LED luminaire TM-21: extrapolation 6x measurement. LM-80: 6-10K hrs real measurement. 0
Page 18 lumen maintenance (L x B y ) gradual light degradation of LEDs over time. 2 constraints catastrophic failures of individual LEDs are not taken into account; no validated way to translate lumen maintenance of LEDs into lumen maintenance of LED luminaire. lumen maintenance LEDs lumen maintenance LED luminaire; metric seems less appropriate to assess LED luminaires performance! Lumen Maintenance Claims
Page 19 Luminaire Life Claims
Page 20 Luminaire Life Claims Following IEC recommended lifetime metrics lumen maintenance (L x F y ) gradual light degradation of all relevant components; abrupt failures of individual LEDs & critical components. abrupt failures (L 0 C y ) of the complete luminaire. Specified at: ambient temperature, # burning hours & # switches per day.
Page 21 IEC Recommended Lifetime Metrics gradual light degradation abrupt light degradation Example L 70 F 50 life time (hrs) where light output 70% for 50% of the population. Example L 0 C 10 life time (hrs) where light output is 0% for 10% of the population.

Page 24 Remember not to mix up Apples & Pears Fair comparison of initial performance of different LED luminaires: 1.ask for product specifications measured against an appropriate standard (e.g. IEC/PAS performance requirements). When considering performance over time of a LED luminaire: 1.forget about LM-80/TM-21 lumen maintenance data of LEDs used in a luminaire; 2.look for luminaire life based on lumen maintenance & abrupt failures of the complete LED luminaire or system.
