BENEFITS OF IP PROTECTION Competitive Advantage - It gives the Company a competitive advantage in its commercial activities, by preventing unauthorised exploitation Provides guarantees on quality and safety of products - products' origin is known and that they are genuine Enabling indirect exploitation- revenues can be generated from direct exploitation and also indirect exploitation by third parties, under licensing contracts. Collateral to obtain financing- can be used to convince third parties to provide financing (equity investment, loan granting, etc.).

INTERNAL CONTROL Know what you've got If our IP is stolen by competitors, catching them is hard, prosecuting them is harder and getting the stolen information back is difficult Know what you've got All staff should protect all Company documents within their custody from unauthorized access Audit Periodic audit of IP assets to identify risk and to determine cost-benefit analysis Lock it up Physical and digital protection is a must. Lock the rooms where sensitive data is stored. Keep track of who has the keys. Use passwords and limit employee access to important databases and documents Educate Staff Awareness training is effective for plugging and preventing IP leaks. Know your tools Software tools are available for tracking documents and other IP stores
