Alto Sax and Clarinet Cleaning Created by Michelle Hoff

Mouthpiece Maintenance Wash your mouthpiece once per week with warm soapy water. Use your mouthpiece brush to scrub the inside and outside clean. Try not to get the cork wet.

Swab Make sure to swab out your instrument every time you play. If your swab is the handkerchief style, hand wash it at least once per month.

Rinse out your mouth Make sure to rinse out your mouth before your play. If possible brush your teeth, but make sure to rinse well as toothpaste can damage the pads on your instrument.

Case Care Vacuum out your case once per month. Never sit on your case. Never put your folder or book in your case. It is only made to hold your instrument!

Dust Dust off your instrument once per month with a dry brush.

Springs and Screws Make sure to carefully inspect your instrument everytime you are done playing. Look for any screws that are sticking out or any springs that are not in their correct spot. If you see anything unusual do not try to fix it yourself, bring it to your band teacher.
