Highlight of Current Activities Standardization activities on cooperative ITS are in progress in each PSO. Report ITU-R M.2228 Advanced ITS radiocommunications has been developed based on cooperation of TTA, ETSI and ARIB, and approved at WP5A and SG5 meetings in November, 2011. Activity toward the development of a new recommendation on Advanced ITS is expected in WP5A. Collaboration on ITS Communications Standards has been created.

Discussion on Strategic Direction Considering the progress of ITS standardization activities in each PSO, the Task Force should discuss towards global coordination of the ITS standardization activities. Collaboration on ITS Communications Standards is created and actively working on the telecommunications area for the moment, while the ITS TF has a role to facilitate the activities in radiocommunications area. Continuation/closure of the ITS TF should be confirmed to cover the broad area of ITS activity.

Challenges Exchange of information on current ITS standardization activities should be facilitated. Global coordination of the broad area of ITS standardization activities should be conducted to avoid conflicting standards.

Next Steps / Actions Continue the GSC ITS Task Force to the Sophia Antipolis meeting of the GSC to provide time to incorporate fully the ITU-R related activities of the GSC ITS Task Force into the Collaboration. Invite interested PSOs to participate in the cooperative activities on ITS. Continue to exchange information and to facilitate cooperative activities among PSOs on ITS standardization. Consider and discuss on global coordination in ITS standardization activities among PSOs.

Proposed modification of Resolution GSC-16/14 Update of RESOLUTION GSC-16/14 (Intelligent Transport Systems Task Force ) will be considered during GSC-17 meeting to reflect the recent activities in ITU-R SG5 WP5A, Collaboration on ITS Communications Standards and others on ITS.
