Mary

Mary may have not understood… In spite of her unique relationship with Jesus, Mary may not have completely understood Him right away John 19:25-27 – At the cross… Jesus is about to die, though innocent What do you think Mary is thinking during these moments? Luke 1:31-33 – Mary knows Jesus is unique! Maybe Mary remembered: Luke 2:34-35 Luke 2:29-32

Mary may have not understood… Mary knew who Jesus was, but she may not have understood right away what He had come for… …and she was not the only one! His brothers – John 7:2-5 The Apostles – Matt 16:5-7; Lk 9:52-56; 18:31-34 John the Baptist – Lk 7:18-20 Is there a chance Mary too would not have understood? Luke 2:48-50 – cf. 2:50 Mark 3:31-35, 20-21 – What about us?

…but Mary had a great character Prayers give us insight into one’s heart Lk 1:46-55 – look at pronouns – cf. 1:46-47 Who do we go to and spend time with? Lk 1:39-40, 56; Lk 1:5-6 – Elizabeth’s character How others address us… How God addresses us Lk 1:26-30 – Gabriel appeared to Mary see Dan 9:23, 10:11, 19; Lk 1:19, 26 What kind of character/purity did Mary have?

…and Mary had great faith Mary’s life changed forever Lk 1:26-33 – What would we do? Mary only asks one question Lk 1:34-37 – Not the same as Zacharias in 1:18 Mary’s situation in the Law of Moses Deut 22:13-20, 23-24 Speaking of Moses… Ex 3:11, 13, 4:1, 10, 13 What does Mary do?

…and Mary had great faith Mary’s life just changed forever Lk 1:38– “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord…” Mary sees something that needs to be done, and she is ready to do it! Back to John 19:25-27 Last we read about Mary, Acts 1:12-14

“Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” Mary, Luke 1:38
