The Mexican army of three thousand men defeated the 189 Texas volunteers. 1857 - The U.S. Supreme Court's Dred Scott decision ruled that blacks could not sue in federal court to be citizens. 1944 - During World War II, U.S. heavy bombers began the first American raid on Berlin. 1960 - The United States announced that it would send 3,500 troops to Vietnam. 1967 - U.S. President Lyndon B. Exit Ticket/Objective 6.3 Assessment During the 1950s America experienced a rising fear of the spread of (1)______, it was referred to as the (2)_____. The U.S. government established new agencies and committees to combat and investigate this fear. They included the (3)_____ and the (4)_____, which targeted America’s movie industry in Hollywood in its fight against communism. In one of the most famous events of this time (5)_____, a group of Hollywood writers and actors, refused to testify before the committee and instead were sent to jail. By the time the committee hearings were over more than 500 people involved in the movie business in Hollywood were (6)____, which meant they could not be employed and their careers were destroyed.
