Writing Surveys

Develop Survey Questions 30 5 Demographic questions (describe the population you are studying) i.e. Gender Race Age Class level Income etc. 15 closed ended questions (with closed responses) Closed ended questions are statements that respondent can give a specified answer to. i.e. Obama is a good president. (closed question) (SA) (Agree) (No Opinion) (Disagree) (SD) On a scale of 1 – 10, 10 being the best, how would you rate his performance as president.

Develop 5 Interview Questions 5 people Intervew Questions are Open Ended, Leaving room for explanations…. Why do you like/dislike Chocolate? Please Explain your response… ***Be sure to use follow up questions where appropriate….

Observations WHO you will be observing WHAT you will be observing Decide and outline in your methodology: WHO you will be observing WHAT you will be observing WHEN you will be observing WHERE you will be observing HOW you will be observing

Sampling methods Random Grab first people you see Choose every 5th person you see Stratified: population into separate groups, called strata. Then, a probability sample (often a simple random sample ) is drawn from each group. Choose groupings i.e. male/female Class level Ethnic/racial Interests (jocks vs. geeks) Cluster: the total population is divided into these groups (or clusters) and a simple random sample of the groups is selected.
